        Reading Comprehension: pages 37 - 39.
Poetry: Read the following poem 2 or 3 times and then read it for someone at home.
Note: each line in the poem is a simile because it uses ‘as’ (as happy as.../as excited as…). A simile is used to compare two things. For example comparing happiness to an elephant in mud.
Discuss the questions below with whoever you read the poem to.
Do you like the poem? Why/Why not?
Which line of the poem is your favourite and why?
Which line of the poem is your least favourite and why?
Which feeling from the poem have you experienced recently? Discuss the experience.
Can you think of any other feelings that are not mentioned in the poem? What similes would you use for these feelings?

Feelings
I’m as happy as an elephant,
rolling in the mud,
I’m as excited as a shark,
smelling fishy blood,
I’m as lonely as a camel,
walking on desert sands,
I’m as frightened as a bird,
cupped in your hand,
I’m as joyful as a bee,
on a sweet and pretty flower,
I’m as cheerful as a hippo,
in a mid-September shower,
I’m as sad as a donkey,
left in a field alone,
I’m as surprised as a puppy,
with a giant, juicy bone,
I’m as angry as a cat,
when the mouse got away,
I’m as weary as a fruit bat,
who’s upside down all day.

I have so many feelings, but I think I’ll pick just one,
I think I’ll choose the elephant,
He’s having the most fun!

Help parents with any jobs they need done around the house – emptying the dishwasher, hoovering, cleaning the table etc.
Jessica, senior infant teacher got in contact with the nursing home near our school, ‘CareChoice’. Jessica thought it would be a nice idea if children would like to send something to residents in the nursing home to make contact and cheer them up.  Children could make a card, draw/paint a picture, sing a song or do a dance, make Easter cards/art, make a piece of art etc. and then if you could email it to them then they could print them off to show the residents.
This would be a great way to cheer the residents up as they have had a no visitor’s policy for the last three weeks.
If you would like to do this, the email is hello@carechoice.ie and put ‘To the staff and residents in CareChoice Malahide, from (child’s name) in Belmayne Educate Together’ and attach whatever your have decided to send to them.

This Friday (April 3rd) the class teacher will invite pupils to join a zoom call. The invitation to join the call will be sent through Aladdin by the class teacher before Friday.
