Assessment for Week 3 - 30/3/20 - 3/4/20

Hi everyone!

We hope you are all keeping well.

Hi everyone!

At this stage you should be nearly finished week 3 work.

After Easter we will be moving to teaching using See Saw. Try to watch the tutorials Gearóid is sending out and just get used to it during the Easter break to prepare for lessons and learning using See Saw.

The assessment for this week's work is as follows:

  • 'Feelings' Poem to be emailed to teachers - if it is a written poem send a photo or if it was done using a device (e.g. Microsoft word) send it that way.
  • Correct your daily Mental Maths using the answers below.
  • Correct your Mental Maths test using the answers below and try to redo any questions you didn’t get or made mistakes in.
  • Correct the English reading comprehension (pages 37 - 39 of Word Wizard book) using the answers below.
Thanks!

Aoife & Shane

Word Wizard – comprehension: pages 37 - 39
Claude Monet
Part A.
1. The first thing you notice when you look at ‘Poppy Field’ is all the beautiful red poppies in the field.
2.  I can see four people in the painting.
3. The large tree on the left adds different heights to the painting, low and high trees. If the large tree were not there, all the trees would be around the same height which is quite unrealistic as in nature this doesn’t usually happen.
4. It seems like a sunny day with some clouds moving in from the top right of the painting. The lady is carrying an umbrella because perhaps she thinks the clouds will part and the sun will come out again.
5. The art critics in Pairs liked classical art.

Part B. – These are opinion questions so once you give reasons for your answers, they should be correct. You have to support your opinion with a reason.
Here are example answers:
1.      I think there are flowers on the left of ‘Poppy Field’ and none on the right because perhaps the soil is not good on the right of the field for flowers to grow.
or
I think there are flowers on the left of ‘Poppy Field’ and none on the right because perhaps the artist wanted to really emphasise the beautiful red colour of the poppies and to draw your attention to them by only painting them in half the painting.

2.    I think ‘Poppy Field’ is a good title because the main part of the painting is poppies in a field.
or
I don’t think ‘Poppy Field’ is a good title because it is exactly what is in the painting so it is not a very interesting title.

3.    I think the lady and the girl in the painting might be talking about all the beautiful red colours of the poppies as the little girl has poppies in her hands and she is looking at them.

4.    I think the people in the painting might be going into town or to a party because they are dressed in very fancy clothes to be walking through a field.

5.    ‘Impression, Sunrise’ gives me the impression that the sun is rising because the colours of the painting are very dark blue like in the morning before the sun rises and the sun is very low in the sky as it is rising up.

Part C.
Some things you might have discussed – in the background of the painting the soft blue colours and the shadows in the foreground show the artists use of light. In the foreground we can see the figures shadows in the grass. The artist uses gentle brushstrokes and layers of green to depict nature such as the grass and flowers.
Part D. Fill in the blanks
  • Blank 1 = Paris
  • Blank 2 = caricatures
  • Blank 3 = oil
  • Blank 4 = outdoors
  • Blank 5 = Impressionists
  • Blank 6 = Poppy Field
  • Blank 7 = Impression, Sunrise
  • Blank 8 = died
