Word Wizard – comprehension:
pages 97 - 99
Stuck in Salou
Part A.
1. Nancy
went on her holidays to Salou.
2. The first thing that went wrong was that their
flight was delayed by six hours. The second thing that went wrong was that her
Dad’s suitcase was drenched in orange juice that had leaked all over his
clothes. The third thing that went wrong was they travelled to the resort by
coach and there was freezing air conditioning which resulted in Nancy getting a
head cold.
3. Just
as Nancy was about to hop into bed, the bed literally starting hopping because
there were cockroaches, the place was infested with them.
4. The family’s
smiles turned to frowns because they headed down to the pool but when they got
there, they encountered a tiny pool covered in gooey green stuff.
5. The
family have been spending their holiday inside their apartment because of a
hurricane, eating food from the local 'supermercado' and their only form of
entertainment has been a deck of cards.
Part B. –
These are opinion questions so once you give reasons for your answers, they
should be correct. You have to support your opinion with a reason.
Here are
example answers:
- The holiday is described as
the holiday from hell as a lot has gone wrong on their holiday such as a
delayed flight, an awful musty apartment, a tiny pool, bad weather and
nothing to do.
- The brochure gave a false
account of the resort as it said it the resort was sunny with lots of
activities and a state of the art swimming pool which was not what Nancy
and her family encountered.
- I think the worst thing that
happened to the family was the hurricane because the family had to stay in
their apartment for a week with nothing to do except play with a deck of
cards and no one wants that to happen when they go on a sun holiday.
- The apartment had to be
fumigated because it was infested with cockroaches so it needed to be
cleaned so the family could say there.
- I think the family should
complain about the apartment and pool as they were not accurately
described in the brochure so it misled the family and this is false
advertising.
Part C.
Firstly,
to begin with, when we finally landed, next, upon check-in, the following
morning.
Part D.
